As educator

Building bridges through music

“I love the direct interaction with the audience. I take great pleasure in making classical music accessible to everyone. I want to entertain long-standing music lovers in a way that is just as informative and humorous as I do for those attending a concert for the first time.”

Music & Cinema

Where sound and image merge

Altstaedt’s unwavering commitment to bringing classical music to wider audiences has led him to explore new avenues alongside his conventional engagements. For Arte and the Ufa Filmnächte Berlin, he recorded film music for Carmen by Ernst Lubitsch. With Ensemble Resonanz, he has presented Faust by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau at the Salzburg Festival and, most recently, The Merry Widow by Erich von Stroheim at Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and Vienna Konzerthaus.

Passing on music, shaping the future

“I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to meet so many young, inspiring people over the years. Long after our time together has ended, I still draw strength from the enthusiasm and idealism of these young musicians.”

“Music, art and literature offer people comfort, strength, encouragement and a joy at every stage of life. I hope that as many people as possible will have access to this richness."
